Ok... let’s talk about weight loss, I wish there was a button you could press or drink you could drink to drop 10KGs in an instant but alas that just isn’t reality (for women especially). Because weight loss can be a slow agonizing process for some people, I can understand the draw toward those “fat detox” drinks and “Shred” supplements but unfortunately all they will generally do is cost you a lot of money and not much else.
There is no drink or supplement that is going to make your metabolism work faster; nor is there really one that is going to make your body go into ketosis (buzz word of 2020). I mean don’t get me wrong if you do a 7-day detox where all you drink are their drinks for a week you will most likely lose weight on the scale, but along with this you will generally feel like crap and have no energy because your body needs food to function. Then once you start eating again 9 times out of 10 you will put whatever little weight you lost back on.
To effectively lose weight you need to eat nutritious foods and limit junk and processed sugary foods and drinks (this includes alcohol), exercise goes along with this, but food is the major catalyst to losing weight, that’s why you hear the 80% food 20% Exercise. I’m not saying that you can’t have that glass of wine or chocolate treat, it’s about moderation.
Starting with the shop, when you are shopping for your groceries majority of your foods should come from the parameter of the shop. So, in those areas in majority of spaces are: Fruit & Veg, Fresh Meat & Seafood, Bread, Dairy Products. The remainder of the shop should be items such as grains (rice etc) herbs & spices, canned veg (i.e chickpeas, beans etc) ... Funnelling down to your limited (or sometimes) foods such as Biscuits, muesli bars, chocolate, chips, soft drinks etc.
Vegan? Ok so when it comes to vegan foods, try to avoid the packaged “meats” and meals designed for vegans as majority of them are full of salt and preservatives. You’re better off doing some research and creating your meals from scratch at home. A good website for vegan meals is thelocaldiary.com
So once the shop is done, get yourself a good set of kitchen scales (I got mine from Kmart many years ago and it’s great) and a way to track your food, so either write it down or use an app on your phone (the best one I have used is MyFitnessPal). Tracking your intake of food at the beginning is a very helpful tool to get a good idea of portion control. It might seem time consuming to measure everything you eat but eventually you will get the hang of knowing a general portion size of an item. I know for me growing up, our portions were very big compared to what is correct so teaching myself correct sizes was quite an awakening.
Last thing to remember is, healthy weight loss can take time so be patient. If your weight fluctuates it’s normal especially if you are female. Don’t weigh yourself too much, also take measurements (if you are working with a PT they should do this for you) the number on the scale can fluctuate but you might see your measurements going down. Just keep going it generally takes 8 weeks for something to become a habit, push through that 2 week & 4 week slump and keep going until it just becomes a habit.
If you fall off the wagon, dust yourself off and get back on. Don’t Give Up. 😊
