A lot of us lead very busy lives, trying to balance work, family, and fun. In most cases, the thing that will suffer is your physical health and eating habits. “I don’t have time” is a big excuse for people to not exercise or eat proper meals.
It is so easy to just log onto a food delivery app and get tonight’s dinner delivered, the issue I have with that is you don’t really know how the food is being prepared and what is in it (what oils they used etc). If your fitness goals are “weight loss” eating out and ordering take-away food can be quite a big hindrance to that goal. I’m not saying never eat out and never order a treat meal but do some things that can prevent ordering out because you ‘don’t have time’ to meal prep or cook dinner etc.
I know that when I first started forcing myself to MAKE time to do these small things is what eventually made it a part of my everyday routine. I don’t have kids so I can’t say that your life will be able to be a pliable as mine is but there are alternatives, maybe try a food service like Youfoodz or hello fresh (definitely not sponsored) but something like hello fresh especially can really cut down on 1; trying to figure out what to have for dinner, etc and 2; majority of the prep because they send you only what you need for that meal. There are a lot of these types of services, and they usually can give you a macro breakdown for each meal which is great.
Now, for exercise… some people may never have the time to spend an hour in the gym every day and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. This is where planning can come in handy. If you have a workout plan ready to go you know that you only need 30mins once or twice a week which for a lot of people can be manageable. Planning is key in time management and exercise.
There is no rule in a gym membership that sets you a minimum time limit for the amount of time spent in their facility (let's face it as long as you pay your membership it really doesn’t bother them if you ever turn up I’m sure). Going to group classes can be a good alternative for those who don’t like to workout alone and lack motivation, although they have set times so if you can’t make the time slot you will miss out.
Like everything, it might be a myriad of trials and errors until you find the perfect routine for you. The good thing about 24hr gyms means if your only free time to go is 1 am on a Tuesday you can. There is also no rule that says you have to workout in a gym, maybe find a Bootcamp in your area or get a home workout routine.
The important thing to remember is to make time for yourself.. you are important.
