Here we go again Victoria…

On the eve of yet another lockdown in Victoria.. Anyone else got PTSD? It means businesses will close; Gyms will close.. our general livelihood closed. Trust me I understand why, and I want to stop the spread too it just sucks that the only way to do it is to close everything down. Many people losing business, income, etc. The economy is already suffering so more closures are heartbreaking.

So, what do we do when the gyms close to make sure we still move our bodies? Set a plan and make sure you do it, working out at home can be very hard because it’s much easier to make excuses not to do any sort of training (trust me I know).

Make a plan.. what does that mean??

Well firstly, decide WHAT you can do from home for example a HIIT workout, Weight Training, cardio all of the above. Figure out WHERE you can do it safely and efficiently. Then HOW long you plan to work out for and finally, WHEN you are going to do it and set that time aside (e.g. 30 mins twice a week, 60mins 5 times a week; Morning/afternoon/evening).

For example, for me, I have some equipment at home such as battle ropes, Weighted Sandbag & Slamball as well as some small kettlebells. So, with this information I know I can do a 5 exercise HIIT repeated 4 Times which will give me a workout roughly 30mins (including warm-up) I know there is not enough space in my apartment but there is an undercover area in the parking lot I can use of an afternoon that is well lit. My plan is from 5-5.30 every day I will do a version of this HIIT as well as a 60 min walk at lunchtime. Now, this is not what I normally do when the gyms are open but what this does is forces me to keep moving and ensure that I don’t become stagnant.

A 7-day lockdown is not going to kill your progress (unless you only eat junk food for the whole time) so even if you don’t do any exercise it won’t send you back to the drawing board. I just know for me exercise is my mental relief so if I don’t do it at all I feel like absolute garbage.

IF you need some guidance on home workouts I do have some at-home workout plans available for Beginners and I can provide a HIIT plan as well just go to my Online PT page.

Stay Safe Melbourne.
