Let's Talk..

Let’s talk weight loss in women.

I’ve recently started an 8-week challenge, and as most of the participants are female, I know there are going to be weeks when they don’t lose anything or ‘enough’ and it’s hard to stay motivated when you feel like you’re doing everything you can and your body isn’t co-operating.

The sad truth is men burn 5-10% more calories than women at rest, this has a lot to do with the fact that men naturally will have more muscle mass then women & women need to keep a layer of fat in order to carry a child.

I don’t normally recommend weighing or measuring yourself weekly as this will capture the fluctuations that women have during the menstrual cycle.

The menstrual cycle does not only refer to the 3-7days of bleeding that occurs, but it is actually around 28 days and has 4 phases, and you may feel the most amount of fatigue the week prior and after your period. This can also be when you hold the most water which can give the illusion of weight gain.

I’ve talked about a lot of this previously (check out my past blogs), but it doesn’t hurt to remind ourselves that the female body is a fascinating thing, it has the ability to produce life so you’ve got to treat your body properly, don’t get hung up on the number on the scale.

Focus on feeling great, do the things that make you happy, this means don’t restrict yourself from having the things you enjoy; maybe it’s a glass of wine or some chocolate. Just do it in moderation.

You only have 1 life, Enjoy it!
